Austin’s own

British Invasion

To promote this exhibit at the LBJ Presidential Library, all we needed was love—and a campaign to capture the hearts of Beatles fans of all ages.

the challenge

Getting the Austin community to Come Together

In 2015, the LBJ Presidential Library collaborated with the Grammy Museum to bring the popular exhibit Ladies and Gentlemen… The Beatles! to Austin. They tasked us with developing and implementing an advertising and publicity campaign to launch the exhibit.

the Solution

Our campaign—and lifesize Abbey Road crosswalk photo backdrop—brought in so many visitors on opening day that the Library then asked us to create a special event to introduce the exhibit to different social audiences throughout Austin. We conceptualized a Beatles-inspired costume party, to be held just before Halloween, in the middle of Austin’s fall social season. The event—named “A Hard Day’s Night”—had a zombified Beatles theme and included a costume contest sponsored by SXSW and Gibson Guitars. We created and executed a paid media and publicity campaign to promote the event and also designed and managed the event—complete with a giant yellow submarine DJ booth.

the OUTCOME

4,000+ people attended the exhibition on opening day—compared to the average of 1,000 attendees—and more than 400 people attended the costume party.
